Program Reflection

“Self-reflection is the school of wisdom.” ~ Baltasar Gracian

Old Dominion University’s LeADERS program connects students to courses and real-world experiences in the areas of:

  • Leadership

  • Academic Internship

  • Diversity

  • Entrepreneurship

  • Research

  • Service Learning

This LeADERS ePortfolio shares how my experiences in four of the areas (leadership, entrepreneurship, diversity, and service learning) have supported my personal and professional development.

Reflecting back and moving forward

As an Interdisciplinary Studies major, I sought an experience that would knit together information from different sources to produce a more comprehensive understanding of leadership and working with groups. The reason for this is that I want my life and educational experiences to blend together for a better future in a career field for which I seek. Classes need to mean something.

The LeADERS Program experience helped to guide me toward courses that would offer a deeper learning experience in four areas of interest to me (leadership, diversity, entrepreneurship, and service learning).

Additionally, the ePortfolio allowed me an opportunity to formulate the interconnectedness of my interdisciplinary courses. It was an ability to understand more deeply how courses applied to me all while utilizing a platform for demonstrating this knowledge to prospective employers and graduate schools.

I had an opportunity to present my LeADERS experience at the February 2020 Undergraduate Research Symposium. This, along with my deep learning experience, will likely help to demonstrate my skills and give me an edge as I apply for graduate schools and seek out careers in areas that focus on leadership, instructional design, and technology. As mentioned in my presentation abstract, the LeADERS Program is an opportunity for enriched learning and its ePortfolio allows you to transport these experiences with you into your future.
